Bridge Builders: Update on Australian Young Marists in Geneva

Patrick Cooke and Brad Murphy, our two interns with FMSI in Geneva are well into understanding and operating within the Human Rights mechanisms of the United Nations in Geneva.

Brad, Br Chris and Patrick at the Hermitage in France.

Pat and Brad are a force for ‘Positive Globalism’. They have been instrumental in accompanying and administering our Marist submission to the Human Rights Council for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Bolivia.

Brad has been successful in getting 22 (a record for the office) Permanent Missions (equivalent to Embassies) to attend lobbying sessions through sheer doggedness and attention to detail.

Pat has put his language skills to the test as he translated for Mauricio and others, moving seamlessly between between French, English and Spanish.

Our Australian Young Marists are indeed Bridge Builders. The picture shows them on the bridge over the Rive-de-Gier at L’Hermitage. The waters flow all the way into the Pacific! In early October we were able to drive from Geneva to L’Hermitage and meet up with the Australian Pilgrimage group. We stayed overnight and joined the pilgrims when they visited the house at Lavalla-en-Gier the next day.
