Mt Everest.

At 8,849 metres above sea level, Everest is the world’s highest point.

But did you know that you can’t summit Mt Everest in one go? In fact, it takes two weeks just to reach Base Camp. Then, to help acclimatise to the altitude and to slowly move resources and gear up the mountain; climbers spend three to six weeks going back and forth between Base Camp and higher camps. It then takes a week to climb to the top and attempt to summit, making the whole process of climbing Everest a two month-long journey!

Guess what? Throughout that whole course of time on the world’s tallest mountain, you would actually spend more time at Base Camp than on the Summit.

The Summit is just one part of the journey.

It’s at Base Camp where you stock up, prepare and train.

Base Camp is your link and your lifeline to the world.

Base Camp readies you to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.

The Summit is the high point, but Base Camp is where the work happens.

Some of your leadership team attended the Marist Student Leaders Summit. Perhaps they brought back some ideas, inspiration and resources. Maybe through them, you all shared in the Summit experience. Now you’re in the thick of it, and it may just be the perfect time to re-stock and re-fuel.

This is your BASECAMP

Here you can access tools to help you find balance, motivation or vision now that you’re on the journey of Marist leadership. Perhaps you’re on your way up the mountain, about to tackle a new project? Or, maybe you’re coming back down and it’s time to re-assess before venturing out to the next high peak? Wherever you’re at on the mountain, there is always time and always a way to pause and shape meaning of the experience you’re in.

And whether or not you need to change direction or forge on forwards, the next step is always simply that: a step.
